Reuniting: A Green Residential Space

Design by Yen-Jung Yu

By integrating the local environment and advocating green decoration, the Reuniting design project creates a residential space that promotes a healthy and eco-friendly lifestyle.

The Reuniting design project, created by Yen-Jung Yu, is a residential space that prioritizes the integration of the local environment and the concept of green decoration. The design aims to extend the indoor space to the greatest extent, allowing natural elements such as daylight and fresh air to flow smoothly throughout the residence. This not only enhances the overall aesthetic appeal but also benefits the mental and physical health of the occupants.

What sets the Reuniting design apart is its core value of green decoration. The entire space arrangement, traffic flows, illuminations, wood sheets, eco-friendly paints, and electrical equipment conform to the idea of a green environment that supports energy saving and reduces carbon emissions. The use of eco-friendly and healthy materials, including natural stones, wood veneers, and solid woods, contributes to the overall sustainability of the design. Additionally, low-formaldehyde wood sheets, eco-friendly engineered flooring, and LED lighting as the only indoor illumination further enhance the eco-friendly nature of the residence.

The Reuniting design project covers an area of 172 square meters and was completed in September 2019 in Taipei, Taiwan. The design team, led by Yen-Jung Yu, carefully considered the interaction between the indoor and outdoor spaces. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the public area allow for the seamless flow of outdoor scenes, creating a sense of unity with nature. The open island counter and spacious dining room further enhance the sense of connection and togetherness in the public area, fostering strong emotional bonds among the occupants.

One notable feature of the design is the study room, which demonstrates the designer's skill in overlapping the boundary between the public and private areas. The study room serves as both a hall and a study area, with a semi-transparent sliding door that adds flexibility to the space arrangement.

The Reuniting design project received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life. The Reuniting design exemplifies the integration of art, science, design, and technology, showcasing strong technical and creative skills while promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle.
